Okay folks, here it is the final podcasts from The Painful Leg Injuries and Barry Seroff.

Always Hang On and Know When To Let Go is the 200th and final PLI podcast. I have loved doing this, and will miss the creative outlet.
There's two final episodes of Barry Seroff's podcast The Sea Is the Salt of the Earth and Avant Savant. Barry plans to continue podcasting in some other format.

About five and half years ago, I first heard of this new thing where people could subscribe to a 'feed' and have mp3's automatically download to their computer and then it put those files on your iPod.

At this point, my new band The Painful Leg Injuries was in an early stage. I was full of inspiration, and had new ideas of arty-music/sound art projects all the time. I started the first Painful Leg Injuries podcast in April of 2005, running it from my artist's website. In late 2005, I had invited John Ibarra of El Plan De Aguavodka and Jonah Goldstein of The Unevenness of the Moon's Surface to join me in started a label/podcast network in January of 2006.

In 2007, the U/M/S podcast had ended, we briefly had work from Jez Stephens podcast ended after three episodes. Alex Spalding's podcast lasted for 3 series, before ending. Later in 07, Little Ricky's House of Chankletas' podcast began which would turn into the Barry Seroff podcast after Barry left LRHC. In late 2009 El Plan De Aguavodka ended his podcast after 150 episodes of excellent music.

Now, in 2010, it's become clear to me the potential of what podcasts could be, has now turned into what podcasts are. I started to think that we could keep going in the established mode, but it was no longer serving any function other than to take from other things that were more worthy of the label's time and energy. But we have not given up on the notion of podcasting, this summer we will begin a all new OKSRNA label wide podcast that will be updated monthly with multiple tracks from several of our labels artists with a mix of album tracks and exclusive material.

In the meantime, we'll be taking a a short break from weekly updates here to finish up and release new albums from The Painful Leg Injuries and Marco Oppedisano. I will be keeping everyone posted on release dates for those records.

For the time being, I'll leave all of currently available Painful Leg Injuries, Barry Seroff and El Plan De Aguavodka podcasts posted on iTunes for free downloads.

We are back.

This update marks the beginning of the final series of podcasts by The Painful Leg Injuries.
My wife Suzanne gave birth to our first child on March 5th, and this final series collects new works for our baby. Subharmonics for Elinor Marie is a six part series, that began with a composition I wrote for my newborn daughter when she was still in the womb. I started from Brahm's lullabye but adjusted it so that it was in the pitch range that a fetus can hear. It's called Arpegginations on Brahm's Lullabye.

Speaking of music with and children, Barry's series of collaborations with his ten month old son Jackson continues with Piano w/Jackson Seroff.

We will return next week.

First, the third chapter of the Painful Leg Injuries' latest series, Travel Time, Travel Time 3 features me playing a home made ukelele running it through a new hardware effect unit I built over the weekend at Austin's latest Handmade Music event. I built the Space Baby Echo from Wooster Audio. Since this series focuses on the movement of time, I thought this echo/delay unit was completely appropriate. I still applied the Travel Time to this recording.

Also this week, the latest episode of Barry Seroff collaborations with his 10 month old son, Jackson. This episode is called Guitar (Jackson Doesn't Care).

This week mark's the last ten epsiodes of the Painful Leg Injuries and Barry Seroff Podcasts.

For the final episode of Barry's Democracy! series, Barry shares with us a wonderful outtake from the session. Two members of the quartet had the amazing iPhone synth app Bebot on their phones and they let Barry's son Jack, play with it. This 1 minute piece is Jack Seroff's first improv, sounds like a chip off the old block.

Also this week is the beginning of the penultimate Painful Leg Injuries Podcast series, Travel Time. My first podcast series was made up of compositions that were about Time Travel, and now I've decided to revisit the concept. Travel Time 1 is the first of this four part series, and it features steel drum samples going through my first Max For Live device, Delay Looper. Enjoy.

This week we have latest podcast, first up is the Painful Leg Injuries with the fourth episode of their latest series, Compositions for DS-10 called CDS4. The Korg DS-10 is excellent piece of music software and really has an excellent sound, equally interesting and game-y (I mean game-y here like it sounds like video games, not sounds like a wild duck tastes).

Also this week, Barry Seroff's third episode of his Democracy series called A Field Recording. Another texturally engrossing totally exploratory without being dull piece from Barry's cantata Democracy. Enjoy.

First up, is the second part of Barry Seroff's Democracy series entitled An Evening With Raymond Scott (in Hell). This wonderful piece continues in the vein that Barry's worked in before, where he's able to mold improvisations into sounding convincingly like composition with very quirky and beautiful results.

Second is the third part of the Painful Leg Injuries' latest series of compositions for the Nintendo DS cartridge, Korg DS-10. CDS3 wanders through aggressive and passive states.

This week, Barry Seroff begins a new series of podcasts that feature improv excerpts from rehearsals for his cantata Democracy. His collaborators in this 5 part series are Anne Rhodes (Soprano) Carl Testa (bass) and Steve Zeminski (percussion), as well as his six-month-old son Jackson, rocking out on iPhones with the Bebot app. The first episode is Chinese Toy Factory.

Also this week is the latest episode from the series Compositions for the DS-10 the latest round of works by the Painful Leg Injuries. This episode CDS2, the second part of a five part series that focuses on compositions I wrote using Korg's DS-10 cartridge on a Nintendo DSi. Thanks again to my main man, Larry, who got me NDSi as a gift back September, others have said it and I agree, the Nindendo DS is worth the price alone for the DS-10 synth cartridge.

Belated Happy New Year to all!

We are back for another year, and 2010 will the start of a new phase for this label.

First, OKSRNA as a label will be switching gears to focus more on album releases, and less of new technology releases like podcasts.

So, in May of 2010, we will be ending our weekly individual artist podcasts, with the 200th Painful Leg Injuries Podcast and starting a new label-wide podcast that will be more like a radio-show format than the one we have been using thus far.

Back in 2005 when I started the Painful Leg Injuries podcast there was no general format for what the audience expected a podcast to be. But over time, it's become clear that a radio show format is what more podcasts are like, so since we are coming up to the 200th PLI podcast, I thought it was good time to switch gears, focus on a new direction for the podcasts.

Additionally, the label's first CD-R release of 2010 will be the first new CD from the Painful Leg Injuries, since 2006's If The Devil's In The Details Than How Many Detail Can You Fit Upon a Match?, which is called The Anomaly That Had Gotten The Better of Me. We've released a track called Everything Put Here Was With The Best of Intentions. Click here to download it.

The Painful Leg Injuries begin their 36th series this week with CDS1, called Compositions for DS-10. We've done several series of Gameboy music, and I thought the next logical step was to make new music using my Nintendo DSi. I focused on Korg's excellent synth/sequencer cartridge the DS-10, enjoy!.

Barry Seroff's podcast also resumes this week with the final episode of his collaborative series with Marco Oppedisano called Eternal Loop. A wonderful conclusion to an excellent collection of work. Hopefully we will hear more from this great duo in the future.

This week is the final episode of the El Plan De Aguavodka Podcast. John Ibarra's music has been a weekly highlight for me, since we started doing these podcasts in 2006. John has decided to focus his attention on creating an album, which we are very excited to release.

El Plan De Aguavodka's music will also become part of the new OKSRNA label-wide podcast that will begin in 2010. In the meantime we look forward to John's album.

Podcast 150 is called All Processes Put To Sleep, a fitting lullabye of processed guitar and computer glitches, a lovely way to go out.

The Painful Leg Injuries begin a new series this week with the first epsiode of their latest series, Wagner's Amiga. The Least Beautiful Sunset of All Time is the beginning of a three-part series of compositions made using classical music samples with modern tracker software, Renoise. Enjoy!

Finally, the latest episode of Barry Seroff's collaborative series with Marco Oppedisano, is the rootsy second part of Daybreak on the Mesa.

Welcome to the 200th posting on the OKSRNA blog!

This week, be sure to check out the latest podcasts. First, El Plan De Aguavodka, Filigree Mirror is composed of decorated and damaged CD's and it's effect is best heard at a high volume enjoy. Next week is EPDA's 150th podcast and on a slightly sad note, the final episode of the EPDA podcast. Now, the good news is that we will finally get an El Plan De Aguavodka album out of this, which is awesome.

Also this week we have the latest from Barry Seroff and his awesome series of collaboration with Marco Oppedisano. Now, another mini-trilogy begins with Daylight on the Mesa Pt. 1. This episode is a guitar duo, of clean tones with Marco playing a standard tuning and Barry with a French tuning. It's full of lovely harmonies, and quite possibly the prettiest moments of this duo so far.

The latest Painful Leg Injuries podcast series concludes this week with On. This episode features sounds from a converted text file that only contains one character, the number 1. Enjoy.

I first learned the definition of the word "error" when I was pretty small child trying to type LOAD "*", 8, 1 on my Commodore 64, oh how far we've come and how little we've changed.

This week's Painful Leg Injuries Podcast is A Catalog of My Fatal Errors, a part of the Raw Data Become Cooked Emotions series of podcasts where I sample data files fed into Audacity and saved as audio.

Also this week is El Plan De Aguavodka's latest podcast Hantavirus where John recorded a mouse cord with a pick up and treated it. John must move his mouse around a lot, from side to side.

Also this week is Barry Seroff's collaboration with our own Marco Oppedisano. This episode is called Air featuring Barry's flute playing. It's jazz without being jazzy.

Barry Seroff's latest podcast, Sea is part of a series of improvised works Barry recorded with Marco Oppedisano. Marco opens this piece with a solo adrift in dangerous waters. Surprisingly jazzy, and lovely. The piece builds into large ice-y chunks, quite powerful.

New podcasts are now posted. First up we have the 3rd episode of Barry Seroff's series of collaborations with Marco Oppedisano. This episode Land is the first of 3-part session and has Marco going into some metal for all of you. You'll love it.

Next, is Clear Private Data the latest episode of the El Plan De Aguavodka podcast. This is one of John's miniatures where he's once again messing with some feedback. Often feedback pieces end up being dense and monolithic. This one is light as a feather.

Finally is the latest from the Painful Leg Injuries. PLI's current series is a collection of works from tweaking data files in Audacity to convert them into audio samples. This one Predictable Dysfunction Festers comes from data converted from a PDF file.

First up is the latest from El Plan De Aguavodka, called Two Lines Through a Rectangle Representing a Window. John paints us a gorgeously atmospheric night scene with this piece where he's processed radio feedback.

Also this week we have the second episode of Barry Seroff's collaboration with our own Marco Oppedisano. Under a Blood Red Moon a large spacious work with occasional cartoon spring sound getting eaten by a vortex. You'll love it.

The latest piece by The Painful Leg Injuries is I Don't Know How To Write a Beautiful Letter. This is the second episode of my latest series Raw Data Becomes Cooked Emotions. The samples that I used to make up this series come from changing data files into audio files, and this piece focuses on samples culled from a letter written in Microsoft Office.

First, Barry Seroff's new series is a OKSRNA family affair. It's the highlights of a series of extended jams with our own Marco Oppedisano. Roundtable brings two excellent players together in one of our most exciting podcast series to date. Looking forward to next week guys.

Also beginning this week, the new series of podcasts from The Painful Leg Inuries. PLI's 34th podcast series is Raw Data Become Cooked Emotions. This series is group of compositions made from samples I pulled by feeding non-musical files into Audacity as Raw Data. This week's episode Cries of Children Failing At Data Entry comes from attempting to import an Excel spreadsheet into Audacity. It sounded so sad, like dying voices. Enjoy!

El Plan De Aguavodka's new podcast is Turnstiled Junkpiled and Stranded. John is once again at it with treatments of field recordings, this time with a little charango. Beautiful and frightening as always.

This week, we've got our latest podcasts starting with The Painful Leg Injuries' latest episode of their third Gameboy music series, CGB 5. The PLI have focused on compositions creaded using the LSDJ software, on a modified Gameboy with full pitch control. This comes thanks to the GetLoFi.com's LTC 1799 precision oscillator. Enjoy.

Next is Nature Imitates Tape, the latest podcast from El Plan De Aguavodka. This makes it two weeks in a row that John has released something austerely beautiful, low-fi but better for it, and completely organic and not the least bit contrived. It's another field recording that receives John's processing, It's fantastic, reminds me a lot of David Tudor's work.

Also this week, Barry Seroff returns with the latest episode of his Self-Accompaniment series featuring the synth looping-vocoded work of Jeff Cedrone, called Low.

This week our latest round of podcasts begins with the latest from El Plan De Aguavodka, called Vacuuming the Glitter from Your Sleepy Head. A processed recording of a music box recorded through a pickup, that features some gorgeous, delicately handled sounds, mind-blowing.

This week our John Ibarra of El Plan De Aguavodka acknowledges the loss of Les Paul. His latest podcast is true dedication to inventor/advocate of much of the technology that makes modern music what it is. The latest episode of his podcast, No More Is Les (Paul) is John playing multi-tracked guitar with home-made pickup. The dense splatters of this piece may not have been what Les Paul intended to influence, he did make it possible.

Also this week the second episode of the latest series by the Painful Leg Injuries. CGB 2 features the debut of my latest modified Gameboy, this one uses the awesome LTC1799 Precision Oscillator that allows you to control the pitch of a Gameboy with simple pot. Much to be excited about this week.

First, The Painful Leg Injuries are beginning a new podcast series with CGB 1, the first part of PLI's third series of Gameboy music. This series is a collection of compositions made with the infamous Gameboy tracker software LSDJ. CGB 1 is the piece I recently performed at Game Over Videogames' Joust tournament.

Also Barry Seroff begins a new series this week, where Barry and co. will be exploring the idea of "self-accompaniment". Each week will feature one of his many co-horts trying this out starting this week with Barry himself performing A Bluish, kind of Purplish Grail (For Rhys Chatham). Barry states that this was "Improvised out of sadness for not being able to play Rhys' 'A Crimson Grail' for 200 guitars this year." Haunting and orchestral, it's quite wonderful.

And of course we have the latest from El Plan De Aguavodka. Hold Music Submission 1 is an awesome rusty anthem the likes of which we haven't really heard from John before, and it's quite incredible. It's like a strange merger of the degraded William Basinski work, if it were applied to something Belbury Poly recorded.

Welcome back everyone.

I wanted to start off this week by thanking Dave and everyone from Game Over Videogames for having me perform at their Classic Game Fest Joust tournament this past Friday. I had no idea how a crowd of gamers would take to my blitzkrieg of warring Gameboys, and I am glad that so many enjoyed my set.

I got a quite a nice mention on the Busy Gamer blog, check it out.

On to this week's podcasts. First up, the latest from my band, The Painful Leg Injuries is frog * x = windchimes the fourth episode of my latest podcast series, Improper Fractions. This epsiode was done using my generative MaxMSP patch controlling samplers with short clips of my voice. The title leads you what to imagine as far as what my voice started sounding like.

El Plan De Aguavodka's latest episode is Fire Working for the Weekenders a treated cell phone memo recording of fireworks that is oddly percussive and highly enjoyable.

Welcome back.

This week, Barry Seroff begins a new podcast series with a taster for the upcoming album by his new duo with former LRHC band mate Stefan Paolini, Lapis. It's called A Path Towards Solace and you can keep an eye on this blog for when it's available.

Also this week, the latest from El Plan De Aguavodka. John gives us a sputtering miasma that may give you a little nausea (like my rhyming will definitely do) with Flat Black Disk.

Also new this week, the second episode of the Painful Leg Injuries' latest podcast series Improper Fractions. This episode is dedicated to the musicians who did the soundtrack and scoring work on the classic TV series, Land of the Lost. I've caught a few re-runs on the Sci-Fi channel recently and I think I now know why I love synths and banjos. I mean, what a genius combination! Since the whole show was scored by that choclate and peanut butter mix, I think in my young mind it planted the seeds for much of my later musical interests. So I used my generative max patch on a collection of samples of my banjo and TAL's freeware synth, Elektro. It's called r(banjos)=x(synths).

We will be taking a short break from podcasting due to my being out of town, so we'll be returning on July 14th. Until then.

Welcome back again.

First up this week, we have sneak preview of the upcoming album by Lapis, Barry Seroff's duo with former Little Ricky's House of Chankletas bandmate Stefan Paolini.

Though, don't expect LRHC from Lapis. LRHC was a kitchen sink melange of elements, while Lapis has a sharp focus. Restricting themselves to Barry's Flute and Shakuhachi playing and Stefan's piano, allows them to explore otherworldly places compositionally as well as the range of their respective instruments. Their classically trained expertise, and openness to wild and varied experimentation is presented on full display here on their upcoming record, A Path Toward Solace.

So, while await the arrival of the album, check out this track, Pull The Trigger.

Barry Seroff is also busy with his podcasts, this week's 3/26/09 is the fifth chapter of his Jackson Songs series. This episode is full of gorgeous playing, as the tension mounts. The end of the track has the sounds of the delivery nurse, and more of the hospital ambience.

Also new this week is the latest podcast from El Plan De Aguavodka, Running With Tape. Sounding like a vintage tape music piece from 60's or 70's, it full of bonks and squiggles. For the final two episodes of this series, I modified my subharmonic synth software to include ring modulation effect and more variety of tone. Enjoy!

Next, is the latest by El Plan De Aguavodka, Nazca Lines. John delivers a strong contrast to the latest PLI series by keeping his feedback at such high pitch, the gorgeousness of this piece is often masked by it's sheer aggressive squeal. My dog did not appear to care for this, but I love it!

Barry Seroff's tone range is definitely somewhere between John's and mine this week with 3/25/09. Barry's latest series is an autobiographical journal of the time he spend with his wife in the hospital as they awaited the birth of their son. As the anticipation mounts, this piece explores the various sounds of everything on Barry's guitar.

Big announcement today, everyone, the debut of BIOS is finally available. It's called Retiring to Palermo to Make Apple Whine and it's one of OKSRNA's finest releases to date (if I do so say myself).

BIOS is an electro-acoustic improvising trio featuring yours truly Bill Byrne of the Painful Leg Injuries, and the Harmful Free Radicals, John Ibarra of El Plan De Aguavodka and Marco Oppedisano. We recorded this back in 2007, the tracks are long improvisations two come from our rehearsal sessions in Queens, NY, and one track is our live debut from 2/17/07, at the Monkey NYC.

In other news, Barry Seroff's begun a new podcast series this week with Jackson Songs. These tracks were recorded during the period of time Barry's wife was in the hospital giving birth to their son Jackson back in March. This week the Painful Leg Injuries begin a new podcast series called Subharmonic New Homeowner Blues. For our 31st podcast series, I've recorded six improvisations with on subharmonic soft synth I've designed using MaxMSP. For those who may be unfamiliar subharmonics are frequencies that mirror a base frequency moving downwards. Now for my instrument I started from the base frequency of 240 Hz moving down to near the edge of human threshold. The piece is called SNHB1.

The latest from El Plan De Aguavodka is a field recording with the Peter Gabriel track "In Your Eyes" removed Eye Theif. People should do that more often. Finally Barry Seroff's supergroup Screwtape concludes their series with the second part of A Coup in Two Parts called Act II.

We are finally back!

As I mentioned about a month ago now, we had shut operations here down for a bit due to my moving. Things were further delayed by my new utility companies getting in my way, but now we are back.

First, we have a new podcast El Plan De Aguavodka, who hasn't had new episode since the beginning of March due to the tragic loss of John's laptop. He's now back with an awesome episode Lies My Computer Told Me About Speed Reading Atlas Shrugged. Which isn't all that different from what John describes as what actually happened.

Also, this week we have new episode from Barry Seroff's psycho-jazz monster Screwtape, the first part of an incredible improv jam, A Coup In Two Parts - Entr'acte. Finally, If You Look You Would Find Exactly What You Were Looking For is the final episode of the latest series of Painful Leg Injuries podcasts consisting of web sampled speaking tongues.

Welcome back.

I have to begin this update by letting everyone know that for next three weeks, there will be no podcast updates due to my wife and I are moving to our more permanent digs in Round Rock, Texas, and there most likely be a period where I have no web access. So, after today's update there will be no podcast update until April 21st.

But until you will have some time to wrap your minds around the two long-windedly titled podcast episodes from Barry Seroff and the Painful Leg Injuries.

First is the latest from Barry, Godflesh is the Greatest Band in the Whole Wide World (and Mo is Wrong). Whether or not you can agree with that statement, you will agree that this podcast doesn't sound at all like Godflesh.

Second is the PLI's latest You Thought I Was Because They Weren't Good At Talking Yet. This is the fifth epsiode of the series Speaking In (Forked) Tongues where I sampled various videos of people speaking tongues. This episode is based on samples of toddlers who have clearly become overpowered by the spirit and are not in the phase where they are just making sounds that have nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. The sarcasm you are detecting is intentional.

I will be adding things to the site and making updates before the podcasts resume on April 21st, so stay tuned.

Alright, what a week. Right after my SXSW performance, my Macbook Pro suffered an "invalid node structure" error. It recovered, then after a great weekend of SXSW shows, I get sick. Now, I've recovered, and we can get back to the business at hand.

I wanted to begin this week by letting everyone know my SXSW Interactive performance was great and I even got a nice mention of the BBC's site. The brits have always been so good to me.

However, unfortunately, the next morning after the show, my laptop had a complete freak-out "invalid node error" and I can't post the new podcasts this week. So provided that my laptop can be recovered quickly, podcasts will resume next week. I should even have some video and an mp3 of my SXS performance.

First, this Saturday, March 14th, I'll be doing a solo performance of some Painful Leg Injuries music following a brief lecture on my Wii-mote controlled music at SXSW Interactive with the Austin chapter of dorkbot! I go on first a 6pm. It's being held at Brush Square Park on 5th and Neches. I'll be demonstrating Wii music, and then I'll be playing a few tracks from the next Painful Leg Injuries album The Anomaly That Had Gotten The Better Of Me. If you are available, come by!

Next, the latest issue of Make Magazine, Issue 17, has an article written by yours truly on page 161 called "The Stealth Mic". This is basically a tutorial on building your own binaural microphones. Binaural mics, are mics that are placed roughly where a person's ears are are great for capturing sounds that preserve the real-life stereo image. They've been used on albums by Radiohead, Brian Eno and Can.

New podcasts this week, starting with Barry Seroff and his crew, Screwtape's latest grindcore jazz melange, Fuck The Establishment. Wow, I haven't heard that phrase in a long time. Also the latest from the Painful Leg Injuries, With Time Everything Goes Away is the third part of our latest series, Spoken With (Forked) Tongues, compositions made from sampling audio clips of people speaking in tongues.

Unfotunately, our good friend John Ibarra has had a laptop pass away and there won't be a new El Plan De Aguavodka podcast for a bit. We will keep you posted on when John's able to resume.

Barry Seroff's latest is no re-run, it's him doing his piece For 6 (w/ NHIC), as implied by the name, with the New Haven Improvisers Collective, with whom this series Barry collaborates. It's a quiet piece that builds, and while it gets louder in dynamic, it also falls in to various pieces, and it's excellent!

The Painful Leg Injuries release the second episode of my latest series improvisations of Wii-mote controlled- circuit-bent instruments. This one feature a Speak and Read and a Casio MT240. The Speak and Read named this piece for me which is Ervee Phon Bled And Where They Which Word. It must have its reasons.

Welcome back! This is our first update of 2009.

You'll notice that for the foreseeable future our podcast updates will now be surfacing on Tuesdays instead of Mondays due to a change in my schedule.

Some label news, the BIOS album, Retiring to Palermo to Make Apple Whine is now at the printers, and I have first test copy in front of me, we will keep you posted with all the details of our upcoming releases.

Podcasts have returned. First up, the Painful Leg Injuries are beginning their fourth year of podcasts in '09 with the new series, Wii Ensembles. This series is improvisations of Wii-mote controlled ciruit bent instruments, and the first piece is a massive droning beast, Looking Through the Magnifying Glass At A Larger Lens.

Our good friend John of El Plan De Aguavodka begins his new year with another processed field recording. Snow on the Tracks and Vin de Glace is another John's lovely discoveries of the microcosmic world around us.

And Barry Seroff launches another group of jams with yet another of his collaborative projects, this time, the New Haven Improvisers Collective. The first episode of this series is Bass Is Displace featuring the players: Barry: Flute, Jeff Cedrone: Guitar, Nate Trier: Keyboard, Bob Gorry: Rubber Band Bass and Composition, Steve Zieminski- Drums. It's one of the sweetest chunks of armageddon you've ever heard.

El Plan De Aguavodka strays from his generally lower pitch form with Sorrow Beyond Dreams, a great drone piece. The Painful Leg Injuries round out this week with Eleven Thousand One Hundred and Eleven, the fifth part of the Numbers Series.

Yesterday, I did something that I haven't done, or been able to do in over a decade. I bought a new Guns 'N Roses album. Now, I won't go into my complicated review of it, since, really for those who read this blog, it wouldn't exactly fit on a thematic or conceptual level. But, once thing I do want to say, is that I have respect for those musicians who clearly get stuck in something, and find their way out. So, though I doubt what we do fits his tastes, cheers to Axl Rose for putting demons aside and making a new record see the light of day.

This week, you'll see our latest podcasts. Black Holes for the Hell of it is El Plan De Aguavodka's return to well worn territory, voids and infinite chasms. Barry Seroff delights us with another surrealist journey with Thing NY! and Night Swim. Finally, the Painful Leg Injuries give us the fourth part of Numbers, One Thousand One Hundred and Eleven.

Barry Seroff's series of his collaborations with his Thing NY! ensemble continues with the relatably titled It's So Rare That You Have Two Pianos. The first time I caught the title I didn't get the joke, and shame on me! This track features our good friend Barry and Paul Pinto on two pianos, with Paul's voice floating throughout. One Hundred and Eleven is the third episode in the latest series of compositions from the Painful Leg Injuries, Numbers.

What a difference a week makes, last Monday my blog post came right smack in the middle of pre-election day jitters all around, now we are in the midst of a collective sigh of release. Well, most of us.

This week's new podcasts are served up for you. First up, Barry Seroff's latest podcast series begins with All The Thing You Are. This time Barry is teaming up with other members of the Thing NY! improvising collective, a wild, dada-ist collective. In addition to our old friend Barry, this track features Paul Pinto, the leader of the collective on vocal; Gelsey Bell: voice, Stefanos Tsigrimanis: guitar, Noah Palmer: piano, Jeff Young: violin, Andrew Livingston: bass, Ilias Pantheon: drums. This lively pie reminds me of the Alterations or Terry Day's work.

The latest miniature from El Plab De Aguavodka is the wonderfully brief Nobody Believed They Would Survive. I love John's latest ventures in vintage sci-fi soundtracks. Though short, it's totally fitting for genre John's working in, very hauntology.

Finally, Eleven is the second episode of The Painful Leg Injuries series of self-sampling compositions called Numbers. I think you find the requisite level of chaos here.

Marco is given some long overdue recognition for his stunning axe-wielding, and he is indeed in good company alongside Arto Lindsay, Nels Cline, Les Paul, Lou Reed, Alan Licht, and bunch of other very high profile folks.

Images from the book will be exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston running through late January 2009.

The Painful Leg Injuries' set from the Maker Faire is now up. It's probably the most noisy and chaotic set we've ever done, it mostly focuses on material from the Wiimote album, The Rich Man's Godforsaken Driver's Seat. I focused on this material in light of the article I wrote on Wiimote controlled music for Make #14. This is album is a free download from this site, click above to get it. This week will begin the final Painful Leg Injuries Podcast Series of 2008, our 28th podcast series, entitled Numbers. This series comes from a project I have gone back to periodically over the past 4-5 years, where I make extremely brief compositions, lasting about a second, maybe even less in some cases. Over the years I've made roughly sixty of these, and the six compositions in this series comes from plugging them into my MIDI sequencer as samples. The first one is somewhat non-ironically called One.

Barry Seroff concludes his amazing trio series with Daniel Carter and Candiria's Ken Schalk with this week's episode Panoramic. El Plan De Aguavodka's latest podcast, Penn Station Is For Dreaming, is a delightful miniature for field recording and tone generator. We'll return next week.

I'd like to say thanks to the Maker Faire for having us back this year. This was the first time Suzanne and I performed in a year, and we were glad to be playing in front of an audience again.

When performing abstract electronic music in a live format, it's always hard gauge audience reaction. However, what I can say after having listened to the recording of the set, if you can make a baby cry so loud it gets picked up by the mic, well, you did something right. I will be posting a video and MP3 of the set shortly.

In other big news, Suzanne and I will be performing at Austin's 2008 Maker Faire. This is the Painful Leg Injuries' first live show in almost a year! Welcome back everyone.

This week the Painful Leg Injuries begin their 27th podcast series, and it's follow up to Series 2 - Echo Synth Guitar. My Unisynth XG 1, having been in a closet from around '94 to 2K5, had a rough year in 2008. It no longer would play back from battery power, and then it shut down completely. Now I had always resisted the temptation to bend it, but since I had to open it up to fix it. Well, it was pretty much guaranteed I'd find something I'd want to do to it.

I played it conservatively adding only two flip switches, one that pushes it to a higher octave, and another I call the "Chaos" switch, which seems to play all six voices at once. So this new series is 6 guitar solos using this modified instrument, running through the same processing rig that series 2 used with digital plug-in effects as well. It's less drone-y and spacey than the first series, but it's also more colorful, and quirky.

This week is also the final epsiode of Barry Seroff's podcast series with his Lapis Lapuzi bandmate Stefan Paolini. Kami Mono is a delightfully prety and surprising piece.

El Plan De Aguavodka's newest episode is Spirits Refuse. This piece for laptop, and effects is absolutely frightening, if this is the sound of ghosts refusing, then please, John, stop asking.

Welcome back.

We are readying our next round of releases starting with Marco Oppedisano's new solo disc The Ominous Corner. I expect it to be out very, very soon. This is Marco second solo release with us, and it is an excellent collection of work. This also marks his return to focusing on live playing, with his more musique concrete constructions in the background, thus this record has stronger sense of focus. Don't take that mean he has lost his interest in abstraction, as this record has pushed that aspect of his work forward as well.

Also expected in September is the long promised, long delayed debut release by BIOS, the trio collaboration between myself (Bill Byrne of Painful Leg Injuries, Marco, and John Ibarra of El Plan De Aguavodka. The main issue we were having was trying to find a way to include our live performance DVD, now that we have, the album will be out in September.

On to the podcasts. The latest from El Plan De Aguavodka is another in a run of absolutely eerie and beautiful pieces for guitar, field recordings and tape. This one is Scandals Overheard and Forgotten in Faculty Housing.

Barry Seroff and Stefan Paolini's series of collaborations reaches its climax this week with the incredible epic, On the Regentrification of the Lower East Side. A pile of the broken remains of vocal snippets, jazz breaks, piano flutters and punk rock guitars, the LES's dead soldiers.

The Painful Leg Injuries let loose The Video Game That Lives in My Mouth, a piece made up of vocal samples, bit crushed to oblivion.

It's official, I've spent a year of my life in Texas. I never pictured myself outside NYC, though only true haters could find a way to dislike Austin.

This week, new podcasts. Barry Seroff begins a new series of collaborations with longtime-co-hort, the talented pianist, and operatic vocalist (seriously this dude's got pipes), Stefan Paolini. Stefan was also a member of Little Ricky's House of Chankletas, for LRHC fans Stefan is singing "Prrrrick!" at the beginning of the 27 New York Anti-Sonnets. To begin his new series, called w/Stefan Paolini 4/21/08 Barry Steps aside, and Stefan plays solo on Improvisation on BA/SE. And it's great.

Next, The Painful Leg Injuries deliver the second episode of Neither Sung Nor Sung. It's called Squeaky Mice Multiplied By The Floor's Four. This series is compositions I've made using my own voice, through various samplers and effects, as well as live vocalizations that amount in the end to something that doesn't resemble singing or songs. This one's pretty scary.

This week the Painful Leg Injuries begin their 26th podcast series Neither Sung Nor Song. This series will be 6 (big surprise!) compositions of vocal works, mainly utterences chopped into samplers and built into abstract works. This premiere episode is Human Beatboxes Skip When They Meet Table Saws.

Also this week, check out the latest duo between myself and Barry Seroff. The tenth episode of Barry's podcast is his final collaboration with me, though I think that Barry and I will do this again, thanks to the great response we've gotten. Montgomery Clift Pontificates on Rising Fuel Costs (but Nobody Listens) is our epic, it's a freak-out battle of the solos Gameboy vs. Axe. Next Barry's third series begins, a series of duo piece with former LRHC cohort Stefan Paolini.

Finally El Plan De Aguavodka finds a world of clicks and buzzes in his piece No Ground. To some it's all the sounds musicians try to avoid, but our good friend John makes it more that a little pleasant.

Aren't we always looking for some kind of balance between beauty and chaos? Now, that's a heavy -handed way to begin an update post, but, this week's podcasts sounded like a little of everything to me, a little pretty, a little silly, a little strange, and a lot of chaos.

Well, perhaps, sometimes we can balance things better in our artwork than in real life.

El Plan De Aguavodka's latest miniature is just that, a mix of forces as his coffee can guitar meets "internet technology" in his latest - Live Stream Buffer.

Barry Seroff's latest series of collaborations is with yours truly and this week, we give you Nobody Does The Robot Anymore. Which, was titled by Barry, and I gotta tell ya, Bar, everybody's been doing the robot lately. And probably badly. In any case, you won't be able to anything but the robot to this track I can assure you.

Finally the concluding episode of the Painful Leg Injuries' latest series, Hobnox Multiplication, Duo : A Perspective on Sounds In Perspective. Next week the PLI begin our 26th series, Neither Sung Nor Song, six compositions all made with my own voice.

Feels like I haven't done this in forever.

Welcome back, there's new podcasts to check out.

Barry Seroff continues his series of podcasts which are a collaboration between Barry and yours truly. I limited myself to my Pushpin Gameboy Synth, and in this episode I did my best to take gorgeous piano piece that Barry sent me and muck it up. It came out very cool. It's called Winter Through The Haze of Summer.

El Plan De Aguavodka's 101st podcast is This Strange Passion. A colorful, all-encompassing orchestral drone builds up around around you, surges and then leaves.

The Painful Leg Injuries podcast this week is a Hobnox trio called Trio : Pegasus Boots and The Dash Attack. I'm improvising on Hobnox's excellent software, Audio Tool on three computers. It has a nice retro feel, and I've processed it to all get out, enjoy.

This week is the 100th episode of the El Plan De Aguavodka Podcast!

The El Plan De Aguavodka Podcast started with the launch of the label in January of 2006. Since then, like my own podcast John Ibarra has been releasng music just about every week. John's creativity and broad sound palette has been a exciting thing to listen to every week.

John's work is often beautiful, monolithic, sometimes violent, always intriguing and involving.

This week with Binaural Amnesia John continues his podcast with a miniature, in fact the very shortest in duration since his first (Bueno Cancelo was :38). This piece is about John's reflections on what forgetting actually is, and the noise and static breakouts recall the short circuits of the mind, and the what can happen to the mind only few feet above the third rail repeatedly over a long period time.

Though it's difficult to connect stand-up comedy and experimental noise music, I have to say one of the biggest influences in my most impressionable years were the jokes, quips, tirades and wisdom of George Carlin. To the left is a mock-up made of the photocopied cover of the tape my friend, Mark Hurley, made of a George Carlin tape I listened to, repeatedly, every day, in 9th grade on the school bus. His most recent HBO special, It's Bad For Ya, showed his in a bit weathered, but ultimate his wit was as sharp as ever.

Also this week, the Barry Seroff Podcast begins it's second series, Call And Response, the first a number of Barry's collaborations. This series is four episodes of Barry collaborating with yours truly. We both recorded two tracks the "calls", then we swapped, and recorded the "responses". I choose to limit myself to my Pushpin/Gameboy synth, and Barry hit me with big surprises. The first episode is Prelude. This one begin on my end, I made a twisted cascade of arp-ed Gameboy squeaks and Barry responded with some gorgeous guitar work. Also check out the latest episode of the Painful Leg Injuries Podcast Duo:East Berlin Is For Lovers the latest of my Hobnox Multiplication series and this time I make a sci-fi-techno-mosh-pit-freak-out, that I think you'll love.

I've long been a fan of David Lee Myers' music. His early work as Arcane Device is the foundation of much of today's electronic music. Marco Oppedisano blew me away with his gorgeous ribbons of swirling guitar, from the first time I stumbled across his myspace page. Together the make a powerful as Tesla At Coney Island demonstrates.

Our latest podcasts have now been posted. El Plan De Aguavodka's latest episode is The First 3.5 Minutes In Heaven, a very rough textured noise beast of processed AM radio that is a fierce, scary seven minutes.

Barry Seroff's latest shows his prowess with the Shakuhachi, and it's at the complete other end of the spectrum than John's latest, is delightful, pretty and though a little eerie, it's peaceful.

The Painful Leg Injuries continue their exploration of the web-based techno/groove oriented software, Hobnox, played on multiple laptops. This piece, Duo : Glass In My Mouth is hardly dance-worthy, a very glass textured sounding piece.

Hope that everyone enjoyed the memorial weekend holiday. Here in Texas, the sun is beating down with vengeance and it's only June.

An article I recently wrote on using the Nintendo Wiimote as a music controller is now published in issue #14 of Make Magazine.

It's on page 145. I take readers through various set-ups for using the Wiimote to control music software, soft-synths, and even MIDI retrofits of some of my favorite circuit bends. Make was kind enough to give spot on their site for links to the freeware, software, videos, and other bits of associated information, click here to read more.

Now, we can talk some podcasts. The Painful Leg Injuries begin their 25th podcast series, Hobnox Multiplication. Using the web-based music app, Hobnox Audio Tool, on multiple laptops, I created long improvised tracks. The first was performed on a trio of laptops called Trio: Totally Faked On A PVC Pipe.

El Plan De Aguavodka delights this week with freak out noise-fest miniature called Forms Auto Fill. Barry Seroff's latest is the third of his Primary Colors podcasts called Primary Colors 3 (Acoustic Guitar). Imagine John Fahey in top form slowly getting plastered.

Alright, folks you might want to sit down for this one.

We've got a very big announcement, it looks like our next release will be the very exciting collaboration between our own experimental composer and avant-guitarist, Marco Oppedisano, and legendary noise-ician David Lee Myers! It's called Tesla At Coney Island, with 13 blistering tracks, that are full of the widely colorful palette that is Marco's signature, and DLM's gorgeous and powerful electronics. I've put up a bio page for David Lee Myers, if like the kinds of sounds you listen to here, and you are unfamiliar with DLM's work, you should really check out some of his releases.

Stay tuned to this site for details on when the album will be available.

Alright now to this week's podcasts, which are pretty awesome, imho.

Barry Seroff's third episode called Primary Colors 2 (Electric Guitar) is a ferocious beast of a improvised guitar solo. If you dig Lightning Bolt, Sonny Sharrock or Metallica, you should listen to this.

The Painful Leg Injuries conclude the Improvisations for Gameboy series this week with the sixth episode IGB6.

El Plan De Aguavodka's latest, Radiating Lines to Indicate Light is absolutely lovely, as radiant and colorful as it's title suggests.

Hey folks, this is a big week for us.

First, Barry Seroff, long time friend of the label, former member of future weirdo punk legends Little Ricky's House of Chankletas, highly trained musical avant-genius, begins his all new podcast. He's a multi-instrumentalist, who challenges the notion of how one's supposed to play an instrument. He's also got the musical chops to know what he's actually doing. It's a bit of a departure from our other podcasts that primarily focus on electronic abstraction what we have here is just as abstract, but also largely unplugged and plug-in free. The first episode is Flute, part of his first series of solo improvisations on six different instruments. Expect Barry to be doing collaborations in his future series.

It's odd that all weekend long, Austin's surrounding counties were under tornado watches that the other two, distantly located podcasters had weather on their minds.

Wow, I feel like a DJ. Anyway, this week's podcasts are now up, with Accumulation, the final episode of Alex Spalding's Dead Pulse series, and the title is very appropriate. A dense fog builds, with lovely textures.

El Plan De Aguavodka explores a Phill Niblock territory with Dry River Bed Dreams Of Flood. Great tones, build into complicated frequency overlays, five excellent minutes.

Finallys there's builds and releases, though Gameboys don't sound like tornadoes. The Painful Leg Injuries' third episode of the Improvisations for Gameboy series arrives this week.

Welcome back everyone.

New podcast this week. The Painful Leg Injuries have begun a new series, Improvisations for Gameboy. A follow up to the 2007 series called Instant Compositions For Gameboy, however since that time I've built an interface to run the Pushpin cartridge which turns a Gameboy Color into a MIDI-operable synth. I put it to use in six part series.

El Plan De Aguavodka's latest episode is Tall, Dark and Wanted which sounds like a miniature Ennio Morricone soundtrack. Progenesis is Alex Spalding's latest surprisingly pretty and ambient.

Good morning everyone, this is an exciting week for us here at OKSRNA. The first CD-R release of 2008 is now out and available, The Harmful Free Radicals' Duplicate Factories of Washington State. To listen to the songs and/or purchase click here.

Aside from being the first CD-R we've released this year, it's also the project that lead to the start of the label. It began in 2003 when myself, and Jonah Goldstein (The Unevenness of the Moon’s Surface), found ourselves briefly living on the same coast for first time in many years. We decided to resume our old habit of recording bizarre experimental pop music together and see what became of it. Duplicate Factories of Washington State is result of those '03 sessions plus four years of songwriting, re-recording and editing. It's pop songs in the vein of Gastr Del Sol's Camofleur album, David Sylvain's Blemish, Brian Eno's Before and After Science and Animal Collective's Sung Tongs. But you guys know us by now, those are references only, we've never made music that is easily described.

In other news, starting in May, Barry Seroff, formerly of riotous punk-jazz band Little Ricky's House of Chankletas will be returning to the fold as our with new weekly podcast. It feature Barry doing what he loves, lots of exploration and improv, and he'll also be doing some collaborating. I can't wait to hear this stuff, so I've got something to look forward to in May besides Austin's infamous heat.

Now to this week's podcasts. This week the Painful Leg Injuries drop the final episode of the Up With The Ether series, with Avoicable Voids. Among the thousands shouting on a radio for your attention, one person may possess wisdom, if you can figure out what they are saying.

El Plan De Aguavodka does the best Paris Hilton remix ever with Paris Destroyed. Al hilarious, deeply engaging and exciting piece to listen to, amazing that John could find something so interesting in music made by imho one of the five worst people in America.

Alex Spalding's latest is Seduction (Prolonged). A minimal techno song, with a tense atmosphere waiting for release.

Welcome back, folks.

The Harmful Free Radicals, my pop duo with Jonah Goldstein, (the co-owner of OKSRNA along with myself, and of U/M/S) will finally have our debut album, Duplicate Factories of Washington State see release any day now. This project started in 2003 and lead to the creation of this label, but because of the distance between us, Jonah lives in LA, I was in NYC, now I'm in Austin, we only had rare opportunities to work on it. It's a weird hybrid of indie rock, experimental electronics and just flat out pop songs, and it's quite a surprising direction for us, and it's nothing like the Painful Leg Injuries or the Unevenness of the Moon's Surface. Barry Seroff former member of Little Ricky's House of Chankletas will be performing in New Haven, CT for all the folks we know around there (huh?). Here's the word from Barry himself:

This El Plan De Aguavodka returns from his series of Forced Confessions with a new test oscillator improv/tape mix, the absolutely frightening and stunning Disaster/Easter In El Paso.

Alex Spalding delivers another fierce noise blast with his latest Atrophied Cognition. He mixes some quite pretty moments in the middle of a lot slow paced violence.

Also, The Painful Leg Injuries drop the fourth episode of the Up With the Ether series called Paul, Call I'm A Freak. Naming these tracks has been like a game of telephone for me, I do my best discern what the voices are saying, who knows, could the phrase "Paul, call I'm a freak?" come up in casual conversation?
